My First Cricut Explore Air 2 Project

I always knew I wanted a Cricut, but I wasn’t 100% sure how much I would use it until I finally had my hands on one! I am not exaggerating when I tell you I have used it DAILY since the day I received it.

The first project idea I had that made me itching for a Cricut was an Iron on idea! I don’t want to give it away because I’m totally doing it for next St. Patricks Day, but I knew the Cricut would be an easy (and inexpensive!) way to create custom t-shirts; which I did! It was just as easy as I thought it would be. (Tutorial on ‘The Office Fun Run’ shirt coming soon!)

Before my Cricut came I had a chat with my friend about how jealous I was that she received one as a gift! I mentioned to her I was nervous because I’d never worked with vinyl before and I didn’t know if it would really be ‘practical’ for my readers. I’m not sure they could make the setup and use any simpler.

Every new gadget is slightly intimidating. You know it holds a lot of capability, but aren’t sure how simple it is to make the machine perform those functions. The Cricut could not be simpler. If you can pull up a website, you can run the Cricut. There is a really slick mobile app that makes it easy too.

The first thing I did was pull out the Cricut and open my mat. When I downloaded the app it told me I could make a sample card. This was a perfect introductory project because it showed off how the pen and blade work on one project. I also learned my first lesson; make sure the pen is ALL the way in! It doesn’t touch the mat, but is fairly close. I simply followed the directions and made my first card. It was that simple!

There’s something about the way the Cricut opened when I pushed the ‘Open’ button that felt like curtains opening to a stage. I literally told my husband to come in from the other room so I could show him how cool it was. Perhaps I’m easy to impress, but I thought it was pretty neat. Stay tuned for next week and I’ll show you how simple it is to create a project from scratch using Design Space! Check out more information about the Cricut here.
