Head to your closest thrift store and get a dingy used tablecloth to make this simple lacy tablecloth makeover in only thirty minutes!
Buying my fabric from the thrift store is ALWAYS my preferred way to get fabric for dyeing because it has been washed so many times, the color takes better! When we decided to make ‘Thrift Store Makeover’ the theme of this month’s link party I knew I needed to do something with a dye project.
I chose black to make this especially for my Halloween decor but this does NOT have to be black and moody! You can choose any color you’d like.
What you Need for your Lacy Tablecloth Makeover
- Rit Dye (If your fabric is polyester or nylon make sure to get DyeMore)

Start by filling your dye pot with water. If you are using cotton the temperature doesn’t really matter. If it is nylon or polyester you will want hot water and will likely want to keep it on low heat on the stove.
Next you will put your dye in the pot. I did not dye very much of my fabric so I used about 1/4 of the little packet.
Next you will get your fabric wet and then put it in the dye. I wanted only one edge dipped so I folded it in a hot dog type fashion to get the two long ends in the dye and the rest out of the dye. It gave it a really fun dipped look.
Once it was the color I liked, I pulled it out and rinsed it.
Then I was all done! This turned out so neat! I honestly would use it for more than just Halloween but I’m moody like that.
