I used the classic IKEA lamp that everyone has in their dorms and made some macrame detail to make it look like it came from anthropologie!
These lamps are IKEA staples. It is just a classic! For that reason I wanted to give it a makeover because I know there are so many in your homes just begging to be made over.
I’ve never done macrame but I really love the trend so I bought some rope. Turns out it’s not too hard! If I had more time (and patience) I would have done something cooler! Because I didn’t have a ton of yarn or time, I went for this spiral/diagnal design which kind of looks unfinished but I liked it!
How I made my macrame lamp shade

- Macrame Cord

First I assembled the HOLMO lamp according to the instructions without putting the lampshade on. The very top piece I also left off so I could attach the hoop with the cord.
Next I pulled the papery stuff off of the lamp shade. The hope on the top is what you will use to start tying your cord.
Next I cut the cord into 9 equal sized pieces. If I had more cord I would have done more. I may go back and do more!
I did a diagonal knot tie so it kind of made a spiral.
I tied off the bottom of each so it looked a little bit finished. I also unravelled them a bit to make it look like it was on purpose! The fraying naturally happens and it was kind of bothering me so I just made it look intentional.
I am so loving how this hack turned out. Have you ever made over your HOLMO lamp? I’d love to see it!
