Customize this party hat to your color scheme and needs for your next fun party! I show you how I made a simple pom pom and assembled the hat.
These hats turned out even cuter than they looked in my head. I think it was mostly because of the super chunky yarn that made the pom poms a little sloppy looking in the most adorable way.
What you need for your pom pom party hat
Open up the cut file and duplicate the file as many times as the amount of hats you need. You will need about 1 12×12 sheet per hat. Another tip to remember is to move the stars on your Cricut to the side so they don’t run lines through the foam!
Make a Pom Pom
Grab your yarn (I used chunky which gave it a lot of the look you see.) Wrap the yarn multiple times around 4 of your fingers. I wrapped it around probably about 20 times.
Then you will take your yarn and string it between your middle and ring finger about 3 times and tie a knot to secure it.
Next what you’ll do is cut the two loops on the opposite sides and you will have a pom pom!
Here is a tutorial I found of a similar way I make mine but she cuts off her own string to tie together which is smart!
Assemble the hats
After your foam is cut out you will start assembling your hats.
Heat up your hot glue gun and tuck the flap into the opposite side. Once it’s in there you will squirt some hot glue into the gap and hold it closed.
Measure your elastic to fit around your chin with about 3″ extra. Poke the elastic through one of the holes and tie a double not. I found one knot was not quite enough to hold it in place.
Thread the opposite side through the other hole and double knot it again.
I was nervous these would pull out so I put a dab of hot glue on each knot to secure the elastic into place.
Then you will hot glue the pom poms onto the top of your hats! I put the glue on the hat before attaching the pom pom as opposed to on the pom pom! I hope that makes sense.
After the glue has dried you are all done! They turned out really cute and could really be adapted to any theme!
