Serums; Why You Should Try Them

When do you apply serum? What is the best serum for wrinkles? What is the best serum for dry skin? I answer all your serum related questions here!

Have you heard of serums? I thought they were just another fad and didn’t really pay much attention. But I have been trying these out for a little while, and also did some reading and I’m sold. I thought you had to spend a lot of money to get a nice serum; this is not the case.

This post contains affiliate links. I received some free product from Asterwood Naturals. All opinions are my own.

I decided to try ARGIRELINE, VITAMIN C, and MATRIXYL 3000 + ARGIRELINE + VITAMIN C. The people at Asterwood Naturals told me that last mixture is their most popular, and I totally understand why!

Do you use serum before or after moisturizer?

If you’ve never tried serums, the general idea is that you add them in your routine after your toner, and before your moisturizer.

As an aside, this is my favorite moisturizer/facial oil of all time.

What is Serum used for?

But back to serums; so Vitamin C is incredible for it’s anti-aging abilities. I decided to go back to my 5th grade roots and perform a little experiment. Consider this my three panel card board presentation. I put each serum I received on a slice of apple to see how they browned. I’ve seen this experiment done before and wanted to see it with my own eyes. I was pretty surprised!

Here was the setup when I first put the serums on the apples.

And here are the apples after about 4 hours. The argireline didn’t have much of an affect on the apples but you can clearly see that Vitamin C and the mixture with Vitamin C in it protected the apple from browning.

Isn’t that kind of amazing?

When you use serums, it is suggested to put them on a damp face. This helps the serum penetrate the skin better.

Argireline is supposed to help with wrinkles. I don’t have wrinkles quite yet, so I can’t speak to it’s affects there. However I will say this went on so nicely and didn’t have any funky smells like some serums I’ve used.

Vitamin C is a classic serum option. This is the best vitamin c serum I’ve used. I’ve tried some others that ended up being kind of weird when I put anything on top of it. I’m not really sure how to explain it, but it kind of flakes off. This does not do that. It really soaks into the skin the way it’s supposed to.

If you want the full bang for your buck, obviously you need this little blend. It is amazing! If you’re only going to buy one, buy this one.

Which serum is best for dry skin?

I have super dry skin and the vitamin C was the best for me!

Another reason I’m completely obsessed with these serums is because of a little beauty secret my friends at Mellie and Lou shared. Have you heard of derma rolling? Make sure to check out their post on it here. This is the derma roller I have been using before using the serum and it has made my skin feel so smooth and fresh. That is saying something! I have had acne all my life and hated how dull it looked. Especially in the winter.
