Simple Gift Wrapping Tips and Ideas

Do you love wrapping Christmas gifts? I love it! I think it’s so relaxing and fun. Sometimes I wrap a gift and look at it and think “Oh.. that looks like a monkey wrapped it”. So I thought it might be fun to share some tips I use that are a no fail way to make your gift wrapping look a tad more professional.

5 Easy Gift Wrapping Tips

Pick a theme or color scheme. If you buy a lot of different things that coordinate, you can do all sorts of combinations that will coordinate, but not necessarily all look the same.

Add foliage. Adding a sprig of foliage appropriate to the holiday or time of year always looks nice. Also, you can easily go trim a little sprig off your bush outside for free! We have boxwood bushes that look really nice on almost any wrapping paper.

Yarn and string make for nice ribbon alternatives. A huge ball of yarn is quite a bit less expensive than a huge roll of ribbon and looks really simple and cute. I have a black ball of yarn that goes with any and all wrapping paper. I use it for almost any type of gift and it will probably last me another five years! I’ve also seen people do the same with hemp or other string.

Use plain wrapping paper. I buy butcher paper and then make the bows, ribbons or toppers match the season. I have black and white and can usually get away with using it for most holidays. IKEA has some great wrapping paper options that are pretty neutral looking as well.

Crease the edges for a professional looking finish. After I have finished the wrapping paper portion of wrapping the gift, I always crease the edges so it looks a little sharper. When it’s not a box shape, obviously I don’t do this. I’ve noticed it gives the package some cleaner lines.

These are just some easy things I do to save money on gift wrapping but I still have a lot of fun mixing and matching for each holiday. If you are looking for a super easy DIY gift topper, these gold rimmed agate slices are a great option too. Do you have any other tips that make your gift wrapping easier or more fun? I’d love to hear them!
