Create this Turban Head Wrap that has a gorgeous tie dye pattern using an extremely simple sewing tutorial. I’ve got a video if you’d prefer that too!
I really wanted to do something for a friend going through chemo losing her hair. So, I decided to make her a little head wrap! This tutorial was one I adapted from Thrifanista in the City. I owe her a lot of credit for this fun pattern. And she wears it way better than I do so I didn’t even try to wear it!
This tutorial made me 3 turban head wraps!
Materials for the Turban Head Wrap
- 2 yards of natural fabric (I suggest a bamboo jersey for maximum comfort!)
- Rit Powder Dye
- Sewing Scissors
- Ice
- White thread
- Sewing machine
- Yardstick
Here is a video tutorial!
Cut your fabric into 12 10″x35″ strips. I cut mine in this way. You’ll see I had six 20″x35″ strips so I could fold them in half when I cut the next part.
Use any dye method to dye your head wraps. I did both ice dyeing and shibori method.
Now you will measure about 10 inches in on the 35″ side and mark that as your top point. Taper both edges from that point.
Now you will place right sides together and sew the shorter side up to the 10″ mark you made. Do this to two pieces of fabric. These will be the two sides of your headwrap.
Open the seams and place the two pieces right sides together. You should now have all four parts of your turban about to sew. Line up the previous sewn lines.
Sew all the way around the edge leaving a hole to flip it inside out! If you’ve done it right the straight bottom area should be about 70″.
Now you will flip it right side out and sew up your hole! You can hand stitch it or just fold both seems in and stitch it with your sewing machine. That’s how I ususally do it.
Now you’re done! To see how you tie it on your head, head over here!
