Everyone has a basic t shirt laying around in need of an update. This no sew tutorial will show you how to make it a little more fashion forward.
All you need is a pair of scissors and needle and thread and you can make your basic t shirt breathe a new life! I have set a goal for myself not to buy new clothes this year so it has been fun to see what I can do with what I’ve got.
This is part of the Inspire My Creativity Link Party which is one of my favorite parts of the month! This month the theme is ‘Something to wear’ so I thought this would be a fun little tutorial.
This particular shirt is from a family reunion. I usually only wear shirts like this while I’m painting but realized I could get more wear out of it if I made it a little more fashion forward.
What you need to update your t shirt
- Your t shirt
- Needle and thread (I used my sewing machine but it probably would have been easier with just a needle and thread.)

I first cut some slits up the side of my t shirt. You can cut them however deep you’d like. I opted for 6 inches.
The high low affect is really popular right now so I cut three inches off the front of the shirt.
Next I rolled the sleeves up just two rolls. To keep this permanent you can use a needle and thread to pin it down. I ironed it and then sewed a straight line along the bottom.
I then cut out the neck. Man this brought me back to my high school days! I used to do this all the time to my dance t shirts! Showing a bit more neck always makes clothes more feminine though.
Then I was all done! Would I wear it on a date night? Probably not, but it did update the look a little bit so I’ll wear it more than I was before!

Next month’s theme is a kid’s activity! I have literally never posted about a kid’s craft before so you’ll need to stay tuned to see what I come up for for that!!
