Water Marbled Valentine’s Day Mug (and 40 other Valentine’s Day ideas!)

This project was born because I don’t normally like purple or pink but when I saw THESE shades of purple and pink, I knew I needed to do something. I have tried water marbling before and knew exactly how easy it is. Plus, it looks so pretty! The water marbled effect has become one of my favorite ways to make simple things even better.

I’ve teamed up with 40 other bloggers to give you even more ideas for love day. Make sure to check them out at the bottom of this tutorial!

I received free product from Rust-oleum to complete part of this project.. All opinions are 100% My own.

What you need for your Water Marbled mug
  • Spray paint (I used blush and aubergine. Most of these photos are of the blush color because the aubergine color was a lot brighter than the cap!)
  • Mug
  • Large container of water
  • Stirring stick

First you put water in your container. You don’t need a ton but you do need at least two or three inches to work with.

Spray the surface of your water with your spray paint. The paint should stay on the surface of the water.

Take your stirring stick and create a marble effect you’re happy with. This really doesn’t take much! Don’t start stirring things all around or you might need to start over.

Gently place your mug on the surface of the water. You don’t need to dip it deep into the water as the paint should be sitting on the surface. Bring it straight out of the water and admire your work!

You don’t want spray paint near where your mouth will go. I accidentally got it near the top in a couple of places. Since I’m keeping these for myself I just made a note to not drink out of that side. But if you’re gifting these make sure to be careful not to do this!
