Let me introduce you to the Diaper Fairy. Are you to your last resort? Here is the way I finally got my kid to put on underwear for good!
We really wanted our toddler in preschool but the only sticking point was potty training. I have friends who used the ‘Binky Fairy’ to get rid of binkys so I made my own version and named her the Diaper Fairy!
What is the Diaper Fairy
Basically, if your child doesn’t want to wear underwear and prefers diapers, this is a happy way to get them to change their mind. You leave them a note (I have a free one for you down below!) where the diapers are and replace it with a toy. The Fairy takes the diapers to give to babies who need them.
My kid is strong willed and resilient. You can never say he doesn’t stand up for his convictions that’s for sure. We tried having him be naked for 3 days. He hates being naked so that didn’t work. We tried a potty chart (I’ll blog that soon too!) with the end reward being DISNEYLAND. He didn’t care. I put a giant transformer on the fridge he would get as soon as he went ONCE. Cared for a day but still wouldn’t go to the bathroom. I put him in swim diapers thinking if he peed he’d get messy and want that to change. Nope he just figured his diaper wasn’t working.
How to Utilize the Potty Training Idea
Needless to say our last resort was just taking the diapers and letting him mess himself. The child needs to know “Why” and gives me solutions when I don’t have things because “You can go to the store and buy it mama!” So this way, he had no way to convince me he could obtain more diapers. The Diaper Fairy totally worked. Is he potty trained? Not yet because it’s been two days but he has made so much progress.
Something I did with this little note was add some glitter modpodge for a special added sparkle. That made it slightly magical too so just an idea!
