DIY Boppy Pillow Cover

Make yourself a custom Boppy pillow cover with this tutorial. This is a beginner sewing project that will only take you about 30 minutes.

I’m on my second baby and really needed a new Boppy pillow cover. Not to mention I needed one tie dyed! I am breast feeding and still figuring out milk supply with everything else going on. This cover has already been washed three times. All of this to say, you need at least two covers for your Boppy in my opinion!

I decided to make this a slip cover and not add a zipper. I did this for two reasons, I didn’t have a zipper, and I wanted to keep this super simple. You can totally add a zipper where the slip portion is and if you do, you’ll obviously need to adapt the back to have a little less fabric than what I have in my tutorial.

How do you Make a Boppy Pillow Cover?

  1. boppy cover Lay your old Boppy cover down and trace around it. You can fold it in half and fold your fabric in half as well if you don’t want to trace the whole thing!
  2. make a boppy cover You will repeat this step but this time only trace the bottom half, then shift it up about 3 inches and trace the top half. This will give you the slit where you will insert your boppy cover.
  3. cut cotton Now you will cut out where you traced.Cut where you traced.
  4. Cut a strait line along the long side of the cover where the lit will be so that there are two pieces for the back.
  5. Lay the full piece (front of your pillow) down on a flat surface
  6. boppy cover Lay out your two pieces for the back so that the bottom is laying over the top over your front piece and pin these together.
  7. sewing a boppy cover Now you will sew the entirety of the pillow.
  8. Flip it right side out and you are done!
  9. Optional Step: if you want to have some natural dyeing fun, use this tutorial and dye with avocado pits. Do you have a boy? I suggest dyeing with indigo. Maybe you want a gender neutral option and for that I suggest turmeric.

What is a Boppy Cover?

Well let’s start with a Boppy for those of you that don’t know. I mainly use mine for breastfeeding however they work well as a support for babies learning to sit up as well. The cover is a way to protect the pillow. Basically a Boppy shaped pillow case. You can purchase them but they are about $20 and super simple to make!
