CAN YOU ENGRAVE CHIPBOARD?

The answer is YES! As you may know, I LOVE chipboard! It is one of my favorite DIY mediums right now. I wanted to see what I could do with it with the Cricut Scoring Wheel.

You can use the Scoring Wheel for so many things,  so I was confident that it would turn out well. But, I had no idea how neat it would really end up looking! I used a curly font, so it wasn’t perfect. However, no one would have ever noticed! If this bothers you, I suggest picking a more straight font.

The first thing you want to do is design your file! You can use the file I created by clicking here! I have this cut file designed as a gift tag shape, but you can customize it by choosing whatever font you’d like. After you have picked your font, click on the scissors and change it to ‘Score’. If you’re not sure what I mean, then watch the video below!

Once your file is complete, you will prepare to cut. Place your chipboard on your strong grip mat. Tape the edges of the chipboard down to the mat, so that it will not shift while cutting.

First, you will put in your scoring wheel in your Cricut Maker. Once the scoring is complete, then you will be prompted to insert the knife blade! Design Space is so good about walking you through all the steps.

Cutting and Engraving Chipboard with your Cricut Maker! From overthebigmoon.com!

The Cricut Maker will go over and over the chipboard with the Knife Blade. It took about 7 minutes for two tags to cut. If you do more, plan accordingly! You just sit back and let it do it’s work.

When it finishes cutting, carefully remove the chipboard from your mat and admire your beautiful tags!

It’s hard to fully capture how cool these looked! You can paint them and decorate them however you want. I liked the natural look because my brand is pretty ‘natural’ anyway!
