Just because you have a litter box in your home doesn’t mean you need to know it’s there. Take these 4 easy steps to forget your litter box exists.
Have the right litter
This is obviously the most essential part to ensuring freshness in your home with a litter box around. Purina® New TIDY CATS® Free & Clean™ Unscented Clumping Litter is my favorite for a few key reasons.
I prefer unscented litter because I’ve found it keeps the room with the litter fresher. TIDY CATS Free and Clean has activated charcoal in it to the absorb odor. Another reason I prefer unscented litter is because the cats prefer it. If you’ve ever had trouble with them not using their litter box, I would suggest trying and unscented litter. It’s all we can use around our house!
I especially like that this comes in a 35 pound container. We have two, large, independent cats who have their own litter boxes. It’s nice that I don’t have to buy multiple buckets of litter in one go.
Keep Fresh Plants Around the Home
Greenery in your home doesn’t only look beautiful, it serves a great purpose. If you are living in a small home, buy a couple of house plants and I promise you will notice a difference in the air! It brings a freshness around that even opening a window doesn’t compare to. Although, you do have to take care of them. So I guess that’s a downside! (I actually wrote this post about my tip to not kill your houseplants so maybe just try it before you knock it!!)
Keep Litter in a Room With a Window
Even if your litter box is in a closet, make sure to open the window in the room with the closet door open at least once or twice a week. Besides just having fresh air in the home, it really helps move out stale air.
Clean the Litter Box BEFORE You Notice It Needs Help
We try to clean the litter box(es) at least every week. Once of the box is making itself known, it’s harder to forget it’s there. Beating it to the punch is always the easiest way to avoid remembering it’s there.
I have not noticed our litter boxes in years since implementing these steps and our home is 1700 square feet with an open floor plan! Just because you have pets doesn’t mean it needs to be the first thing people notice when they come in your home. You can keep it fresh; I promise!
