Pinterest is chalk full of some great ideas for natural dye and I love perusing the beautiful colors. Avocado dye and indigo dye are two of my favorites. When I saw a beautiful mint that allegedly came from a blue spruce tree I HAD to try! Especially because my mom has the most beautiful blue spruce tree in her front yard!

Dyeing with a Blue Spruce Tree

Prep Time: 10 minutes
Active Time: 5 minutes
Additional Time: 6 hours
Total Time: 6 hours 15 minutes
Difficulty: Easy

Materials

  • Blue Spruce tree cuttings
  • Tea Towel or other natural fiber material

Tools

  • Large pot
  • Something to Stir
  • Rubberbands (optional)

Instructions

  1. Bring your water to a boil
  2. Place a large amount of blue spruce into the water. I used about a cup.
  3. Simmer about 20 minutes.
  4. Place your damp towel in the water and heat low.
  5. Allow the fabric to sit as long as you need. I let it sit overnight.
  6. Take it out of the water and rinse.
