I had to know, can you dye with corn husks? They have so much waste to them I wanted to see if I could get a color out of them.
Husking corn leaves SO much waste. I wanted to boil it up and see if a color came out. Below you will find a full tutorial of the process. I have seen people dye corn husks. But I wondered, could I dye WITH the corn husks? I use all sorts of other waste after all. Avocado pits, espresso grounds, stuff like that.

Can you dye corn husks?
This is what I’m going to try next. I’ve seen Rit do a lot of fun projects dyeing dried corn and I cannot wait to try! Especially knowing that they don’t really make any sort of color!
- Dye Pot
- Beet Leaves
- Put 2 gallons of water in a pot
- Bring water to a boil
- Put husks in and put on medium heat for 30 minutes
- Put in your cloth
This was experimental and doesn't result in much BUT it is a fun method for any sort of science fair project or someone with a strong sense of curiosity!
