Dharma Trading Co. just dropped another round of special edition dyes and I couldn’t wait to try them! This time we’ve got Bog Goblin, Dark Star, Cherry Smoke, and Crimson Carnage. I tested each one using my favorite ice dye method so you can see how they look on real fabric.

Testing Dharma’s Special Edition Dyes
Every so often, Dharma releases limited edition fiber reactive dyes that are available for a short time only. This batch feels perfect for fall. Rich, muted tones with lots of depth and character. In this post (and in the video below 👇), I’ll walk you through how I tested each color, what the results looked like, and which shades I think are worth picking up.
Also, fun fact: Dharma crowd-sources the names for these dyes from their Facebook community, and they always pick the best ones.

My Testing Method
I kept this simple: I scrunched small cotton towels into my Magic Tracks and sprinkled just a touch of dye powder on top of ice. After the ice melted, I added a bit of soda ash and let everything batch for about two days before rinsing. This gives a pretty accurate read of how each color behaves in an ice dye environment.
Color Results
Cherry Smoke
This one’s a moody, muted black cherry shade — a little smoky, a little purple. I’m not sure yet how I’ll use it, but I think it could pair beautifully with something bright like Amethyst or Fuchsia Red for contrast.

Crimson Carnage
A true red with a touch of blue undertone. It reminds me of a deep ruby — great with Tangerine or Teal Blue. Slightly muted, but still vibrant enough to pop. Definitely a color I’ll reach for again when I want a bold, balanced red.

Bog Goblin
This one stole the show for me! Bog Goblin is a rich green that feels earthy and magical. The perfect “forest moss” tone. I plan to try it with Seafoam and Sage next.

Dark Star
Dark Star is tricky to describe; kind of a smoky gray that splits into subtle blue and purple tones. It reminds me of a watered-down version of Raven Black or New Black. It could be beautiful layered into darker geode projects.

How They Look Together
To see how they play off each other, I made a kaleidoscope-style project using all four colors — and honestly, they blend beautifully. Muted, fall-inspired, and a little bit mysterious. It’s one of those combos that looks even better up close.

Final Thoughts
All four of these Dharma special edition dyes feel a little moodier and more subdued than their regular lineup. Perfect for fall projects or more sophisticated color palettes. If I had to pick one standout, it’s definitely Bog Goblin. That deep, mossy green is stunning in person.
