This is a DIY Macrame Wall Hanging great for beginners or a quick project. It works well for a group of crafters as a make and take as well!
This is a really easy intro to macrame! Whether or not you’ve done macrame before this is a good way to get a quick fix. It’s also a fun project to do as a group. I really like crafting with groups so I can see everyone’s creativity and how everyone does it so differently!
Is Macrame Still Popular?
Yup! It came back from the 70s and is very popular now. I love the look of small AND large pieces.
Where do you hang macrame on the wall?
I put mine on the corner of a shelf! You can hang it anywhere you would hang a photo or a painting. This gold hoop is very easy to hang. I’ve used a command strip or a nail.

Materials
- Macrame Yarn
- Gold Hoop
Tools
- Scissors
Instructions
Cut your cords long enough that when folded in half they are about 6" longer than you want your wall hanging to be. I cut 8 cords for a total of 16 final strands.
Cast on each knot by doing a Larks Head Knot.
This next part you do whatever you think will look best! What I did was 2 rows of square knots then started a diagonal I repeated this a couple of times alternating between the two styles!
When I felt like it was how I wanted it I tied two of the strings together in a double knot. I then trimmed each string to match in length.
