This DIY muslin swaddle blanket has a super fun safari theme making it perfect for any safari themed baby shower or any animal loving mama.
I’m so excited to be linking up with some super talented bloggers to bring you this fun DIY muslin swaddle blanket tutorial to go along with a Glam Safari theme. Hopefully you found me because you were checking out Salina’s safari themed gift basket. And let me just tell you, this would be the perfect addition to that basket!
First thing’s first, to see exactly how I make my swaddles go to this post here with a swaddle blanket instructions that is hand stamped. If you aren’t in the mood, you can always buy these handmade swaddle blankets, naturally dyed from my Etsy Store!
Now onto the safari customization!
What you need for your DIY Muslin Swaddle Blanket
Start by cutting out your gold foil iron on. This is the rose gold foil. I pretty much use this every time I’m using gold foil because it’s a little more subtle and… less yellow. I have a strong hatred for yellow.
Don’t forget, mirror for iron on before you cut! If you need a refresher course on iron on, or this is your first iron on project, I have a full checklist to not mess up your iron on. Weed your cut!
Now is the time you will iron on your gold foil. Place it where you’d like it to go. Heat up your iron on to 320 degrees and set the timer to 30 seconds.
Remove the plastic slowly after letting it cool. This will ensure it won’t lift. However, if it does lift, simply put the plastic back down and use the EasyPress 2 to re-iron it.
After removing the plastic I always suggest using a teflon sheet and re-iron it again. This will really ensure no lifting will happen.
Now you’re all done! Isn’t this DIY swaddle so cool? I’m pretty much in love with it. Also I’ve never had gold foil lift in the wash. Swaddles get washed pretty often so you want to make sure you’re using the best iron on for the job!
What fabric is used for swaddle blankets?
I use two types of fabric for my swaddles. Cotton/muslin gauze and bamboo gauze! My suggestion is to go to any fabric store, online or brick and mortar, and search for ‘gauze’. Feel them and see how soft they are if you’re in a store!
What are muslin blankets made of?
Muslin blankets specifically are made of cotton. When you’re doing a swaddle they are cotton gauze specifically.
How do you dye muslin blankets?
Dyeing muslin is one of my FAVORITE things to do! I will link a video below all about how I fold my blankets. To naturally dye them, you’re going to want to follow my YouTube videos or read this tutorial of how to dye with avocado pits. Most natural dyes have a different process so make sure you’re following along to see specifics.
I hope you will go check out Val’s brilliant idea for a glam safari photo backdrop next! This photo backdrop is SO fun for any safari themed party.
