DIY Tassel Banner

DIY a tassel banner for a birthday or any occasion! The one featured here was a baby name used above a crib and turned out so cute.

I love all my Cricut projects so don’t miss out my post all about Cricut infusible blanks and how to make a t shirt.

Baby showers are the best. I came up with an idea to make a tassel banner for the baby shower that could also be used above the baby’s crib. It was like a three for one! Party décor, gift, nursery decoration.

I used my sewing machine for this, but you can easily use a hot glue gun if that’s more your thing.

I also used a Cricut Maker to get the perfect triangles, but you can cut them by hand using a steady hand with your rotary blade. I’m not great at free cutting so the rotary blade housing is what was used here!

Materials

  • Iron on
  • Fabric
  • Twine or yarn
  • Embroidery floss

Tools

  • Sewing machine
  • Easy Press
  • Scissors
  • Standard grip mat
  • Fabric grip mat

Instructions

Cut out the letters using iron on and your Cricut.

Cut out the triangle shape using your rotary blade and Cricut.

Iron the letters onto the fabric with your Easy Press 2, 330 degrees for 30 seconds

Create your tassels by wrapping the floss around 4 fingers. Cut the floss.

Add floss around one side of the loop several times then cut the other side of the loop.

Pin your tassels to the back of each triangle and sew them using matching thread.

Grab your yarn or twine or whatever string and cut it to size.

Pin the tops of the triangles to the string by folding ¼ inch of the fabric around the string.

Sew along the line to secure the triangles but allow them to move freely. If you want them to be sewn into place that’s ok too but I wouldn’t do this until you make it out on a wall.

How do you make a banner with paper?

You can do this tutorial with paper too! You probably wouldn’t use iron on (although you can). It won’t be as durable as the fabric tassel banner, but it is definitely an option.

I made this for a ‘gem’ themed baby shower that I am really hoping to share soon. It was a perfect event for a little baby named ‘Ruby’!
