If you’ve been eyeing new colors for your next tie-dye project, this Dharma Rattlesnake, Blood Moon, and Snow Maiden review will give you a real look at how these shades behave — from swatches to finished projects. I tested each one using my go-to ice dye technique so you can see exactly what they look like on cotton towels (and how they compare to swatches on bamboo).
Whether you’re wondering about Rattlesnake tie dye results, curious how much green Rattlesnake actually shows, or debating if Snow Maiden leans more blue or purple, you’ll find the answers here.

How I Made the Color Swatches
Before dyeing my full projects, I always make swatches so I can quickly compare colors later. For these three shades:
- I dabbed a small amount of dye powder on bamboo fabric.
- Placed a single ice cube directly over the dye.
- Let it melt completely before rinsing.
Note: Swatches on bamboo can split differently than projects on cotton. Bamboo often shows more color variation, while cotton can mute or shift certain tones.

Testing on Cotton Towels (Ice Dye Method)
For the full projects, I used soda ash–soaked cotton towels scrunched into my magic tracks tray. Then I sprinkled the dye powder on top of the folds and added ice.
If you’re curious how to do this in depth, here’s my step-by-step ice dye tutorial.

Dharma Rattlesnake Tie Dye Results
- Swatch expectations: Green and brown tones with possible yellow highlights.
- Actual results on cotton: A rich, earthy brown with almost no green showing.
- Rinse-out notes: Quick rinse, no excessive bleeding, and colors stayed put.
While I didn’t get any green in this first test, the color itself was still beautiful — I’ll be experimenting with application techniques to see if I can coax out those green tones.
If you want to troubleshoot a result that’s not going the way you want it here are some common tie dye mistakes to avoid.

Dharma Blood Moon Tie Dye Review
- Swatch expectations: Deep red with hints of blue.
- Actual results on cotton: Pinkish-red overall, with a faint halo of blue in some spots.
- Rinse-out notes: Surprisingly quick rinse for a red — usually reds take forever!
Blood Moon is a bold, warm red that still feels soft and wearable. I can see it pairing beautifully with black or deep blues in future projects.

Dharma Snow Maiden Review
- Swatch expectations: Purple, blue, and maybe pink tones.
- Actual results on cotton: A gorgeous purple-blue blend with no pink showing in this batch.
- Rinse-out notes: Very clean rinse, no color transfer to other items.
Snow Maiden has quickly become one of my favorites — soft yet vibrant, and it plays well with both warm and cool colors.

Bamboo vs. Cotton: Why the Colors Look Different
Bamboo fibers and cotton react differently to fiber-reactive dyes. Bamboo often pulls out secondary split tones (like the green in Rattlesnake or pink in Snow Maiden), while cotton can lean toward the dominant color.
If you’ve seen other Rattlesnake tie dye results with more green or Snow Maiden with pink tones, it could be due to fabric choice, ice melting speed, or even dye concentration.
My Final Thoughts on Rattlesnake, Blood Moon, and Snow Maiden
- Rattlesnake: Warm, earthy, but may not show green without specific application methods.
- Blood Moon: Bold red with a slight halo effect, rinses faster than most reds.
- Snow Maiden: Cool-toned, dreamy, and versatile.
I’ll definitely be using Snow Maiden again, and I’m determined to experiment more with Rattlesnake to get those elusive green tones.
You don’t need to pair colors to get awesome results either. One color tie dye works just as well if not better sometimes!
